During the holy month of Ramadan, two Hadef & Partners lawyers joined a group of fellow lawyers from the UAE to collect and personally distribute charitable contributions to displaced persons living in refugee camps in Jordan.

The team travelled to two refugee camps; Mafraq, in one of the poorest regions of Jordan and now home to over 100,000 displaced Syrian and Palestinian refugees, and the Gaza Refugee Camp in Jerash, established in 1967 and home to a population of 40,000 people living within one square kilometre. Successive generations have been born and raised within the camp without proper access to health, education or basic humanitarian services. Through the assistance of local NGOs, UN agencies and the Green Crescent Society, the team was provided with a pre-selected list of families, widows, orphans and organizations most in need in the two camps.

Hadef & Partners lawyers, Abdulrahman Juma and Mahmoud Awad, personally collected over AED 65,000.00, which included donations from Hadef & Partners staff members. In total the team collected over USD 140,000.00 and as each member of the team paid their own airfare and accommodation, 100% of the donations collected reached the individuals and organizations in need.

Through meeting families in door to door visits, visiting an orphanage and a home nursing project enabling nurses to visit homes in the camps to tend to the sick and elderly, the team distributed the funds to over 1,200 families, widows and orphans and to charitable projects.

Hadef & Partners is already an active contributor to the UAE and regional community, but this is the first year that lawyers of the firm have been personally involved in this type of initiative and we hope to see continued support for this particular project and similar ones in the future.

As a UAE law firm, our aim is to contribute to issues of national and regional interest and importance – both professionally and personally as individuals. Our Abu Dhabi and Dubai offices regularly contribute towards initiatives and projects which aim to advance social change and encourage a positive impact on the environment and society.
