HADEF & PARTNERS IS PROUD TO BE A SUPPORTING MEMBER OF ‘CARE BY AIR’

‘Care by Air’ is a UAE non-profit, logistics-related charitable initiative which was established to support the country’s humanitarian role across the globe. Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the initiative has already made a huge difference to the work of relief organisations as they can now rely on private business partnerships to help them deliver aid where it is needed throughout the world.  Hadef & Partners involvement in supporting ‘Care by Air’ was recently nominated as Corporate Social Responsibility team of the Year Award in the Corporate Counsel Middle East Awards 2013.
 
Dr Faraj A. Ahnish, Managing Partner of the Abu Dhabi office of Hadef & Partners, is part of the elected Board of Trustees representing Care by Air’s founding members - Etihad Airways, Maximus Air, Aramex and Abu Dhabi Airports Company.   His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is Honorary Chairman of the initiative. 
 
Hadef & Partners provides a substantial annual monetary donation for this charitable initiative and also provides pro bono legal services. Because the UAE is an important global air transport hub, hosting world leading airlines, this charitable initiative can truly make a global difference with the UAE leading the way.
 
During 2012 the charitable efforts of Care by Air saw the facilitation of ten humanitarian missions to Nepal whereby 30 tonnes of supplies (consisting of four million single-use syringes) were carried, which were invaluable in preventing the spread of communicable diseases.   With the successful collaboration of aviation and logistics partners, Care by Air also flew five Maximus Airbuses to Yemen carrying 265 tonnes of cargo with food relief at a much reduced cost.  
 
A huge proportion (up to 80%) of the UN Humanitarian Aid budget is spent on logistics, whilst every week millions of tonnes of empty cargo space go to waste all over the world.  This initiative enables the distribution of vital supplies and aid to those who need it most.   By filling these empty spaces with much needed aid, and providing this on an ‘at cost’ basis, the amount of charitable cash donations spent on logistics can be significantly reduced and many more millions of lives can be improved and saved.
 
Leading air cargo airlines and logistics companies support the efforts by donating empty cargo space at cost or by waiving handling, landing or parking fees and offering discounted fuel prices. Maintaining the ‘at-cost’ approach means suppliers and service providers in the aircraft sector ensure no losses are incurred, hence guaranteeing an efficient business model.
