The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators launched three international conferences in 2017 examining ‘The Synergy and Divergence between Civil Law and Common Law in International Arbitration’. The first conference took place in Dubai on 8 and 9 March 2017. Melissa Quai Currie, Partner, Dispute Resolution, attended the conference in Dubai and also was a panelist on the topic of "Privilege in International Arbitration and Parties' Expectations" at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Young Members conference which took place that week. The panel discussed the civil law and common law approach to privilege, how this may impact an arbitration and offered suggestions on how to tackle differences.
