Raymond is a Senior Associate in our Maritime, Transport & Trade practice in Dubai and specialises in complex commercial arbitration, litigation and mediation disputes with a focus on international trade, maritime, aviation, space, insurance, logistics and transport matters. He also has extensive experience with commodity contracts and documentary credits as well as joint venture, shareholder and agency agreement related disputes for various business sectors, including manufacturing, hospitality, marketing and retail clients.
In a series of cases, Raymond is the lead lawyer representing both shipowners and P&I Clubs in litigations arising from the OW Bunker insolvency. He is also the co-lead lawyer advising in connection with a major airline disaster.
Raymond is a regular contributor to publications discussing recent legal developments and their practical implications on various commercial sectors.
Prior to joining Hadef & Partners, Raymond practiced law in New York. The majority of his practice involved aviation, maritime and subrogation related arbitration, litigation and mediation as well as insurance policy interpretation and disputes arising from international sales contracts, including those subject to the UN Convention on the International Sale of Goods (CISG).
Raymond completed his LL.M. at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York where he focused on International Commercial Arbitration and International Trade. He graduated with an LL.B. (Hons.) from the University of Birmingham School of Law in England. Raymond also holds a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations from Pace University in New York. He is fluent in Arabic.
Raymond is admitted to the New York State Bar as well as the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, US District Court for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) and US District Court for the Eastern District of New York (EDNY).
He is a member of the International Bar Association (IBA), Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), American Bar Association (ABA), Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre (EMAC), European Maritime Law Organisation (EMLO), European Aviation Law Association (EALA), YoungShip Dubai, American Business Council (ABC) and the International Institute of Space Law (IISL).
