Vacancy: IP Associate

Seeking:

An exceptional 3-5 year PQE (approximately) IP Associate for a new role in this expanding team, working at one of the leading law firms in the United Arab Emirates.

We would be prepared to consider candidates who lack this level of experience in particular circumstances.

 

Job Description:

This is an excellent opportunity for a junior to mid-level IP lawyer to take their career to the next stage, and to contribute to the development of the team.

The candidate should have a strong  background and experience in IP matters. The role reports directly to the Head of Department and it presents an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to develop his/her skills under the supervision of the Head of Department.

Responsibilities will include:

  1. Handling IP portfolio and trademark management matters;
  1. Overseeing trademark prosecutions, registration, searches, filling applications and assisting in advisory work;
  1. Advising on copyright from both a contentious and non-contentious perspective;
  1. Communicating with clients, preparing reports for cases as well as giving general advice on strategies for IP protection;
  1. Supervising and advising on Trademark and IP administrative proceedings, including anti-counterfeiting;
  1. Handling transactional work, including drafting licences, franchise agreements, and IP Assignment Agreements (especially those in respect of IT Software);
  1. Communicating with external service providers, managing and monitoring their performance and delivery, and liaising with foreign law firms and IP agents to assist on multi-jurisdictional tasks;
  1. Handling IP due diligence and audit projects;
  1. Assisting in overseeing patent prosecution services, and providing know-how on contentious and non-contentious matters.

 

Required Experience and Attributes:

  • Western qualified and UAE/Middle East experience. Consideration will be given to suitable candidates who do not have such experience but who can demonstrate a serious commitment to developing their career with the firm and to living in Dubai.
  • A strong command of written and spoken English.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic would also be useful but it is not a must.
  • An ability to develop strong long-term relationships both inside and outside the firm.
  • Focused on client service and prompt delivery, with the willingness to help develop the IP team and the firm. This will include preparing articles for publication in the Firm’s Client Newsletters, and also external publications. It will also include presenting at client seminars and professional functions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and superb drafting skills.
  • An ability to think of innovative solutions.
  • An appreciation that answers in this jurisdiction are not always black-and-white.
  • The ability and willingness to act as a spokesperson and a representative of the firm in their professional and personal life.
